I tried calling the traffic dept and couldn’t get through. Your post was 3 on google and told me exactly what I needed to know. Just read the posting below mine and I have to laugh because its clearly the same.. hahaha

When i couldn’t get through to the Traffic Dept and realized there was probably no one there except the answering machine rattling off alternative phone numbers and bad music, I luckily found your blog which told me everything I wanted to know anyway! thanks! i hope my experience tomorrow will be as painless as yours…

thanks very helpful as you can imagine it’s now just over a year later so of course prices have gone up – R140 for application, still R45 for temp and now R45 for id pics still same one across the road.
A step up has been the eye test is now on a computerised system that calculates pass or fail just a few seconds after you complete the test. Has a manually operated joy stick for you to to follow direction of E. Hence the queue for the eye test (with more people ahead of me) went faster than queue for final process and payment consisting of a lesser amount…..in total it took 2 and half hours!
I called first for all the info then found your write-up, now sharing with my facebook community.
